Hawthorn (Crataegus oxyacantha) is a spiny tree or shrub that is native to Europe. Its botanical name is from the Greek kratos (meaning hardness of the wood), oxus (meaning sharp), and akantha (meaning a thorn). The fruit and blossoms are used medicinally.
