Saw Palmetto

20-25% free fatty acids
CO2 SE - 80-90% free fatty acids

Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a small palm tree native to the coastal regions of the southern states of the United States, from South Carolina to Florida. Native Americans traditionally used saw palmetto berries to treat genitourinary tract disturbances and as a tonic to support the body nutritionally. The berries also have a toning and soothing effect on mucus membranes throughout the body as well as an expectorant property.

Modern research has focused on standardized extracts of the oil from the ripened berries. The berries contain about 1.5 percent of a fruity-smelling oil containing saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and sterols.

The primary use of Saw Palmetto is treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and other inflammatory prostate conditions. Approximately 50 to 60 percent of men between the ages of 40 and 60 years of age suffer from BHP, with the incident increasing in higher age groups. Research has shown that Saw Palmetto extracts perform as well as, if not better than, current pharmaceutical treatments for BHP.
